January brought with it 2015 Design and Construction Week™ (DCW), where an estimated 125,000 industry experts convened at the Las Vegas Convention Center for the largest tradeshow in the field. Consumer Reports has released the hottest trends and products from this year’s show, and we’re here to reveal the findings and expertly implement your favorites into your next remodeling project!
The biggest and best trends revealed at this year’s Design and Construction Week™ included:
- This year’s show saw an increase in hand-less kitchen appliances and fixtures that provide clean, contemporary style and help improve sanitation within this space. Manufacturers are now creating such technology as dishwashers that are enabled by knocking, touch-to-open cabinetry doors, and faucets with hand-less alternatives.
- Many kitchen appliances once popular in commercial settings are now coming to residential kitchens for a simplified cooking and cleaning experience. Sous Vide ovens from General Electric (GE) are one example of trendy products used to perform French-based cooking techniques that have been adapted for at-home use.
- Customized home products and designs are becoming more popular then pre-built items. From custom-built appliances to countertops and cabinets, and even digital bathroom systems, you can now customize nearly any product you need.
- Technology dominates. Many kitchen gadgets on display were want-based rather than need-based but can be fun ways to modernize your kitchen and streamline operations. Kohler featured its PureFresh Toilet with a built-in carbon filter for odor neutralization, for instance, while LG Hausys revealed its TechTop countertop with a wireless charger embedded into the countertop design.
This year’s Design and Construction Week™ also emphasized the growing popularity of indoor-outdoor living, with more homeowners opting for fireplaces, fire pits, and outdoor pizza ovens. LED lights have also grown quite trendy this year.
