Remodeling Project Summary
The customer needed to keep the original wood floors, more storage in the kitchen, and a sleek
look not too modern. To get more storage we removed the existing built-in pantry and replaced
it with stacked cabinets from floor to ceiling with rollout trays. This was a very specific idea the
customer had in mind. The customer also wanted to add an island. One of the obstacles with
that was the way the kitchen was laid out the island had to be offset but we did not want it to
be too far away from the rest of the kitchen. The cabinets are Homecrest Sedona, maple
painted white, countertops are Cambria quartz Queensbury, farmhouse sink and backsplash is
Garden State Tile Anthology. An example of excellent workmanship is the custom stove hood.
Unique features include the bar area and a massive wall of cabinets. People are often hesitant
to remove a drywall pantry but creating a stacked wall pantry with rollouts created great
storage for this customer.
Ability to Meet Challenges
The biggest challenge was removing the double door built-in pantry and installing the massive
wall, multiple cabinet pantry with stacked storage. When the remodel started, we realized the
pantry end had to be bumped out a little farther than we originally thought because there were
additional supports on the wall. This obstacle was overcome with a few design revisions and did
not delay the project at all. The other challenge was creating an island that was offset but not
too far from the rest of the kitchen.
Interior Design/Architecture
The overall aesthetics do meet the original goals. We were able to effectively add a wall pantry
and island which was part of the intended function from the homeowner.
