Custom Bathroom Design

Posted on: August 31, 2012

Everyone enjoys the thought of a luxurious custom spa bath, where you can relax away your worries and let the day’s stress fade away. Custom bathrooms can come with many amenities such as an air-massage or water-jet whirlpool tub complete with an in-line heater and custom color matched trim.

When I design a custom bathroom for my clients, color and texture play important roles in establishing a theme for the overall look and feel of the finished bathroom.

Custom Bathroom Design: Theme & Colors

Starting with color, one of the most popular looks is white tiles and cabinets with shiny chrome fixtures and green glass accents. Add in a soft palette of cool sea-foam greens and pearl blues and you have a fresh, attractive environment – allowing you to completely escape. Another custom bathroom favorite is a neutral color scheme. Soft earthy tones mixed with natural stone and the warmer brushed nickel fixtures lend an air reminiscent of a quiet cozy corner nestled in a wooded glen. Custom baths can also look vibrant, colorful and elaborate in design as well.  In short, a custom bathroom design allows you to express yourself in every way, shape and form.

Custom Bathroom Design: Functionality

The next design element I use when designing custom bathrooms is functionality. Vanities can be traditional height, intermediate height or “comfort height,” (which is the same height as a kitchen counter.) With a higher vanity:

  • The faucet and bowl are easier to access
  • You don’t have to bend down uncomfortably and strain your back
  • All items on the top are within hand’s reach
  • You have extra storage capacity

Toilets, of course, are one of the most important parts of the bathroom. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes for both form and function. Believe it or not, most people have never even thought about their toilet options! However, you have a variety of choices to consider:

  • Traditional height or comfort height
  • Round front or elongated front
  • One piece or two piece
  • Gravity flush or pressure assisted flush

Shower fixtures are a personal choice, too. Showers can be customized into a variety of configurations – a traditional shower head, a hand-held shower hose and multiple body sprays. And you don’t have to stick with just one! The mix and match variety allows you to customize your spa experience.

The end goal of any custom bathroom design is to create a unique environment and relaxing spa like atmosphere where you can relax, refresh and re-energize. The options available might seem numerous and overwhelming, but keep in mind, those options are as limitless as your imagination. When it comes to custom bathroom design, the sky is the limit!

Customer Testimonials See What People Are Saying

“Although we have given this project a rating of 10 in all areas, we would like to give our thanks and appreciation to our designer Joel and installer Andrew (and crew) for the excellent job they did in remodeling our bath.  It was truly a pleasure working with them from beginning to end."
